This is probably my favourite piece of writing on achievements, and what is wrong with them: If the trophy existed as some part of curated challenge in-game, it'd be fine, but instead it's there, making opportunistic trophy collectors (like myself back then) change the way they play the game for the worse. That's the kind of trophy that affects player behaviour in the wrong way, since the game developers just spent months tuning the game for weapon pickups and enemies around those weapons. And I agree, I remember (back when I used to look at the lists) using only one weapon to play through parts of the game, and ignoring picking up other weapons, just to get a trophy. For a game like Witcher 3 to punish you for making your own choice is incredibly annoying. Annoyingly, (30 hours in to the game) the trophy is ONLY if you kill the beast in question and not just get it to leave. However, like most quests in that game the situation is presented to you openly, leaving the player to decide. The Witcher 3 has a Silver trophy for killing a beast in a certain contract. Requires a huge grind at the end of the game. There's one in Syndicate that requires you to destroy a certain amount of destructibles with your carriage except the number is WAY too high. I loved and played that game throughout the end of last year and in to the Summer this year and magically, after about 4-5 months, the Platinum popped. Good trophies should unlock from you just spending time with the game. They're some of the worst for micro-transaction/F2P stuff on consoles and they can't balance difficulty to save their lives.

The fact I can beat a game like The Last of Us on normal difficulty and have like 3% trophies is a problem. I don't mind when it's a trophy for trying it to get people to see how it works, but when it's 'Shoot 50 Guys while hanging' it's annoying. Forcing you to use gameplay features that aren't required and may not be what you prefer. Multiplayer grinding trophies being worth too much (The Last of Us) No progression trophies - getting progression trophies both gives you a sense of accomplishment as well as allows others to see how far you've played a game. I don't mind games that are hard to platinum, they should be. They are absolutely amazing games so far and I'm having a blast.īut the one thing I don't like is the trophy list in these games, and looking back to The Last of Us, that one was also really bad. So I'm playing Uncharted for the first time (I couldn't get past the 1st one back on PS3 due to poor shooting controls but that was fixed) via the Uncharted Collection and I'm near the end of the 2nd one.
