To prevent any recents from showing up in Quicktime player and Preview in the future (a very nice feature for me) go to System preferences, then general: at the bottom recent items: click none. Then quit QuickTime player and right click over the app and all recents should be gone and it will be clear. Type your 20-character registration code in the last field.
